    Butyl and non- butyl cleaners.

Ok, I have been detailing for a while but I dont think Ill ever learn stop learning new things. I want to learn about the butyl issue in cleaners.

Some general purpose cleaners claim to have or not have this ingredient. For Instance, the Meguiars Detailer product line makes two different All Purpose Cleaners, one has it the other doesnt. The non-butyl cleaner claims to be a good fabric spotter and engine degreaser while the one with butyl claims to be biodegradable.

So Im confused. What is the deal with butyl? What does it do in the cleaner and why do some have it and others dont?

I appreciate the answers. Thanks for helping me.

Hi, John Sharp: Welcome to DC.
While I don`t know anything about butyl/non-butyl cleaners, I thought someone should say hello.
I have heard that non-buty cleaners are preferred, but I have no idea why.l

Without pulling out the chemistry books.

There are some environmental concerns about butyl and waste water run-off. There is also possible health concern with repeated, prolonged exposure.

Butyl does have the ability to streak paint if not diluted properly.

One thing for sure, butyl has awesome cleaning ability.

As new technology is made available we are using new ingredients that replace butyl and still offer superior cleaning.

Our all purpose cleaner has contained butyl based but is soon being released in a non-butyl formula.
