Default how long should a waxing last

I was wondering why water does not bead like a freshly waxed car after only 2 or 3 weeks.
I washed it then did a clay job finally doing the sealer and the carnauba wax. Water beading was small and uniform beads, now after a week of heavy rain and flooding that you have seen on the news the beading has turned to big blobs of water not uniform like fresh wax). Is this normal for the dispersion to go away so quickly? I'd say it looks like a car that is probably in need of it's next waxing

thanks for you help

Welcome to Wax Forum!

A heavy rain can prematurely age a wax job.

While water beading isn't the only indicator there's protection left, you could try some FX Spray Wax and it should freshen it up quick and easy.

Has the vehicle can be driven or parked outside and not washed since it was waxed? A dirty vehicle will not bead water well.

I'll try the FX, thanks. The car is just such a big pain because it has more metal then most.
Yes, the car had not been washed but at the start of the 5 days of non stop rain it was beading then about the 3rd day in in stopped beading like a freshly waxed car. So, I guess what you are saying is heavy rains washed the oils off that create the beading. Does FX replenish the oils?

4Speed,

Welcome to the neighborhood!

I think we've had almost as much rain in Jacksonville as y'all have had in Mouse Town and both of my cars are still beading just fine. I have noticed that if I get a layer of road film on the car, then the water doesn't bead as well. I guess it's because the water is on the crud instead of the wax. At least the wax is still protecting the paint from the crud.

My GTO was last waxed with Mothers PowerWax back around Christmas (and was going to be done this past weekend until the rains came) and still beads just fine. Including right now (5/26 at 8:30pm) because I got caught in the rain on the way home from work.

I think you'll find that your beading will come right back after your next washing.

haven't washed it yet as it won't stop raining. Every day we have torrential downpours.
The can of FX says synthetic but the spray does not, is it synthetic?

All versions of FX are 100% synthetic.

it all depends ,
is your car kept in a garage?
do you hand wash , or take your car through car washers
and believe it or not what colour is your car?
solid colours greens , blues solid reds you might get a little longer life with your
finish try using a glaze instead
also try using straight waxes not the cleaner waxes, don't get me wrong the finished
product looks good , but I have found they just don't last as long
