Default Clear Coat Wheel polishing

Why does Mothers recommend a product like Plastic or Power Plastic Polish on clear coated wheels over a paint oriented polish like power polish? What polish attribute makes one better than the other. Clear Coat wheels is just paint but the clear coat is usually harder than typical paint. Is that the reason?

The clear coat on rims is a thick, soft, plasticized urethane.

Due to its softness, for regular use, a plastic polish is recommended over a paint care product.

I had wondered that myself. Thanks for asking Abnot. Ever tried waxing your wheels? Brake dust comes off easier and they stay clean longer. Just use a PURE wax. Step 3 is what I use.

FX Spray Wax works real well to add protection to coated wheels.

Will Reflections Spray Wax work as well?

It does -- so long as it's the current formula and not the original "let dry to a haze" formula.

We often refer to FX Spray Wax as it's more broadly distributed, but Reflections actually is a little more durable; it's just hard to find except online.

Thanks for the quick response.
The directions on the bottle do not mention letting it dry so I assume it's the new formula.
I'm lucky, there is an auto parts store near me that carries all the Reflections products.

Would wheels on an '06 Chevy HHR be coated? They are listed as 17" Polished Aluminum.

Factory wheels would be, yes. General Motors offers a lot of vehicles with a polished wheel (some more polished than others, like on the Corvette), but they are all clearcoated.
