Lexol leather conditioner
Hi Everyone,
I'm just curious if anyone out there uses lexol conditioner and how do they use it. How is it different from mothers leather conditioner because I have it as well.
Thanks

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
Mothers Leather Cleaner removed some (not all) of the stains that Lexol pH Leather Cleaner did not remove. But this was with some particular stains on my steering wheel only.
Mothers Leather Conditioner is a creme, but with Mothers I could more easily avoid leaving residue around stitchings than with Meguiars Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner creme (very thick and pasty creme).
Both Meguiars Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner/Conditioner creme and Mothers Leather Cleaner made the microfiber towel very dark brown, while Lexol pH Leather Cleaner did not. I guess the leather on my gray steering wheel cover is not compatible with Meguiars and Mothers.
The steering wheel cover manufacturer recommends mild soap water for cleaning their specially tanned and coated leather. They say that many automotive leather cleaners are for harder leather than their leather.
My seat is made of MB-Tex, a vinyl: easier to maintain than leather.
P.S.:
The reason I have steering wheel cover: the top part of the factory steering wheel leather was torn when I purchased the car (220 thousand miles at purchase, now about 280 thousand miles). Probably, the previous owner did not clean and condition the leather regularly.

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
Assuming the leather finish is in good condition, the "dark brown" on a towel would likely indicate the product has removed soil -- generally a desireable effect.

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
I cleaned the steering wheel cover leather last week with Mothers Leather cleaner. It does not look dirty.
Today, I cleaned it 4 times, and the microfiber towel still becomes dark.
After wiping off the cleaner, the steering wheel feels sticky.
So I have a feeling that I may be removing tanning oil.
Sorry for the poor picture quality.

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
I think your answer is in your post above...
"The steering wheel cover manufacturer recommends mild soap water for cleaning their specially tanned and coated leather. They say that many automotive leather cleaners are for harder leather than their leather."
Finished leather used in automoble production is different than some other finished leathers.

I've had the same problem with the Meguiar's creme and I'll be picking up some Mother's leather lotion for my next application.

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
Just to throw my two cents in, my truck has cloth seats so I have never used the Mother's leather cleaner. I am however a huge fan of leather cowboy boots. The brand I wear are handmade and they only recommend Lexol. I would say Lexol is a more gentle formula for the fact most boots are a softer leather and typically utilize a lot of the exotic leathers, and that Mother's is a stronger formula for use on your tougher seats and wheel. Typically unless you have a custom interior would people have ostrich or alligator leather seats.

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
While I like specific Mothers' products (FX Spray Wax, FX Synwax, Scratch Remover) Nothing beats Lexol's Leather Conditioner. It's the only conditioner that I have ever used that doesn't leave the leather shinny, greasy and slippery. Lexol just leaves a soft and supple feeling, just like it was new.

I love Lexol products for my equestrian leather, but it made my auto seats in previous vehicles too shinny.
My new Lucerne has tan leather, they are not shinny, and I prefer it that way. What does Mother's suggest for a cleaner and conditioner? Thank you!!

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
Not all leather finishes are the same and can require different products -- our Mothers Leather Cleaner and Mothers Leather Conditioner are formulated for finished automotive leather.

You statement is fairly obvious, however I believe I was asking if the Mother's Leather products made automotive leather shinny. Perhaps I shouild have been clearer with my post.
Will the use of Mothers Leather products produce a shinny effect on automobile (GM) leather or will it leave in flat as my seats are now. Thank you.

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
Tesla, there will be some shine, but not as much as some of the other leather care products on the market. Mother's Conditioner has a low sheen. Most other products that I have used have a high sheen.
Plus, it helps to buff the leather with a cotton terry towel a couple of hours after application and removal. The buffing reduces the sheen to a minimal state, and the leather looks fairly natural at that point.

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
If you think that the Lexol left your seats too shiny, then you'll hate the Mothers Leather Conditioner. Again, I love most Mothers products, but their leather conditioner is not one of them.

As Bama indicated, a final buffing is often needed on some finishes. One also has to be careful to not overapply a product -- whether it's our product or theirs.

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
In our experience, Mothers Leather Conditioner will leave a matte finish after buffing out product and leaving it on overnight for the product to be absorbed.
And speaking from sales experience, MOTHERS leather cleaner and Leather Conditioner are the best selling leather care products in our country beating Lexol and other brands combined. Because of its excellent quality.
Not that I'm biased but the sales speak for itself.

I agree. That has been my experience also with Mother's Leather Conditioner.
There is a lot to be said for the technique used.

Re: Lexol leather conditioner
This topic has brought to light that people are passionate about their rides and the products they use on them.
Often times a product that is "better" for one person is not "better" for someone else -- techniques that may differ for each product can make or break an application.
That said, this thread is now closed.
Use what you like -- just use it often.
