Default Water filtration systems, and freezing rain?

Two parter here guys.

First what is everyones take on a water filtration system such as this: http://www.autogeek.net/clinhofianda.html

I'm interested, I don't necessarily have the hardest water at home, but it is city water, that is not softened coming through my hose outside. And there is a tiny bit of sediment. The new house I'm looking at has well water (yet it's in the city, long story), and it's quite full of sediment, leave a glass sitting for a hour, and it will have a couple of millimeters of sediment and rust in the bottom.

Second is:

Last night while out for New Years it rained, and froze to my car (as well as everyone elses). How does that affect water spotting when you warm up the car, and the hood gets warm, windows defrost, etc.

If you have hard water, or a lot of sediment, any filter is better than none. Can't speak to the performance of that filter system, but it looks better than no filter.

You'll probably have some water spotting... not much you can do about it under those circumstances. If you have some good protection on there, and get it washed soon, it should be minimized.

I've read a lot of reviews on the system over at the AG site. It appears everyone that has it likes it. Just was wondering if anyone over had any experience with a filtration system. I kinda trust the Mothers board a bit more since the AG site is more for the boutique kind of enthusasits.

I installed a set-up similar to the product you mentioned. I use a 5 micron sediment filter and a water softening filter as part of my car washing routine. Ever since I used this set up, I noticed that I no longer had the problem of water spotting during my car wash routine. In the following link, I shared my experiences of using a water filtration system. Hope this helps.

I plumbed my garage with a Hot/Cold faucet from my house system. I have an elaborate Kinetico soft water system. I have the greatest time washing my rides. The systems you mention are a step above having none.

To have a Soft Water System in your house makes a world of difference. Saves on water heater repair/replacement, pipe erosion, clothes wash better and last longer, dishes come cleaner with less soap and so does your shower/bath and many other factors.

Even the bargain basement system from Sears or Hardware stores are worth it!

I've got a water softener at my house, and a sediment filter, but still have problems with water spotting, etc from the taps outside, and the facet outside isn't tied into the water softener either.

I actually found I can build a system similar to what is offered on the other site just by going to Wal-Mart and getting some filters and the containers for them.
