    Cleaning carpets

What do you guys use to clean carpets? I currently use a shop vac and the little green machine for cleaning. The little green machine does a pretty good job but it takes a while a times. I`m sure some of the f/t detailers here use extractors. Anyone have any luck using the shop vac for wet extraction after a shampoo, i think it would be faster. It`s raining again here, is it ever gonna stop?????

    Cleaning carpets

Here`s the process I use, I think the critical steps are brushing and letting the cleaner soak in.

    1. Vacuum and brush carpets.
    2. Pre-Treat any stains with AutoMagic #8HD or Spot Shot
    3. Spray carpets with #8HD (30:1 ratio)
    4. Wait 10 minutes, and brush
    5. Use little green machine with hot water only, no chemicals
    6. Go over again with shopvac

Use as little water as possible, since wicking can occur once everything is dry. I`ve noticed a little wicking in my truck so I`m going to lightly spray it with #8 and vaccum it up without adding any water and see if that cures it once and for all.

    Best of luck.

So, no cleaner is added to the little green machine? I was wondering because I just bought one ($59 shipped from overstocks.com). What kind of brush is used? I don`t want my carpet looking like a "furry" mess. What is wicking?

I used to use the Little Green

I used to use my Bissel Pro Heat, but saved my pennies and bought a Mytee 60 HP extractor, though my process does not change, my results have improved quite a bit and is quicker.

    1) Vacuum with SHopVac
    2) Spray on cleaner, let sit for 30 secs
    3) Vigorously scrub in cleaner (on general areas, stain are different)
    4) Hit it again with a light coat of cleaner
    5) Let sit a couple of minutes
    6) Hit it with the extractor (rinse then extract a couple of passes)

That`s right, no cleaner is added to the machine. Pre-treat the stains, spray the carpets, brush and remove the cleaner using the little green machine and vacuum if you choose.

on a side note, what`s your username stand for?

Rtcat, thanks for the info. My user name goes back to 1995 when I bough my first computer. My wife and I knew nothing about email or the Internet, so the email address that we shared (sound ridiculous today, huh) was the first letter of my name (Rob), the first letter of my wifes name (Tracy) and the first five letters of our last name. Brick has been used many times in the past as my nickname. It has just stuck with me all these years. How about you?
