Exclamation Removing Old Wax!!

Alright yes i wax a lot now i have tried to get all the wax off by claying and using pre-wax but in the sunlight i still get this look as if the wax is still there and it is! They are not swirl marks i know this as a fact. My neighbor says if you realy want to get it very clean and strip all the wax off you have two options 1 water down paint thiner and wash the car with it or 2 use dish washing soap "He use to detail cars" than he said to wash it with a very clean bucket and wash mit than dry than eather clay than wax or skip right to the waxing. Which way would you do it i would like anyone to reply with there opinion. Thank You
PS I do realize that you are not sapost to use dish soap on cars.

Dude...

I'm not sure what you mean by being able to see the "old" wax. I thought it was 32 degrees out, based on your last post... I'm not sure you could see anything at 32 degrees... that's probably frost.

If I've read your threads right, every weekend you're claying, using a pre-wax cleaner, a sealer & glaze, and then a coat of FX Synwax?

While one can understand your desire to do a thorough job, I would think that you're also going to prematurely wear the finish on your vehicle.

"Water down with paint thinner? Eeek. What's your neighbor do now, by the way?

I bet the consensus would be to keep it simple... use the FX Synwax periodically -- once a week if you must (two applications at the same session if you wish), and use the Sealer & Glaze as needed (maybe once ever few weeks or months), and clay and Pre-Wax Cleaner only when absolutely necessary, or once or twice a year.

Well yes it is about 32 degrees out but when the sun hits it i see the wax its not frost because this has been there for a while my neighbor now works for the nuclear power plant. No i do not clay and pre-wax every time and yes believe it or not that is what he use to use to get a spotless clean car. I already asked Mothers about waxing to much they said by the time you buy a new car you probably still would have not have worn the paint out dont forget i do this all by hand

Maybe you can explain how you see the old wax... I'm not sure what that looks like. Especially if you're using fx synwax (and not carnauba)

I would think that a fresh application of fx synwax would be all you need, but I guess you tried that.

And with winter well under way, I would think that you would just have to grin and bear it until spring like the rest of us.

Well this has been goiung on ever cense the fall i found that it is from over waxing but i just would like to know what would be the better way dish soap or paint thiner i do do 3 coats of wax almost every weekend and that causes build up of wax so i would like to start fresh and just get a couple of coats in before full winter comes into play so i would like the car to be as clean as passiable

I've found dish soap handy... I wouldn't dare do paint thinner because of the possibility that I might get it where I don't want it... they talk about "try the least aggressive approach first" all the time, and though I've never tried dish soap for the reason you explain, I'd certainly try that first.

Or do this... try a small area with each, and see what results.

In the past, Forrest has recommended 3M Wax and Trim Adhesive Remover, which is available at many auto parts and paint stores; or you can use mineral spirits, which is available at most hardware and paint stores.

Apply only to the affected areas.
