Powering a PC From Your Car?

Just wondering for those situations that you don`t have electricity to work with, is it possible to power it off the car battery. I have a job this weekend, a Yukon with some swirls and the guy lives in an apartment complex with no electricity and wants it done there. Any ideas or should I just look forward to a good arm workout.

A power inverter would work but it would all depend on the PC and the inverter. I think the PC would drain your battery (possibly). Also, the inverter would prob have to be a heavy duty one, but I dont know the amps (off hand) the PC will pull. At the most it would be 20. So make sure the inverter can handle up to 20 amps. Of course, good heavyduty power inverters arent cheap and you run risks so it may be better to do it by hand, if you can. Unless you want to try the risks and leave your truck running for a while.
Id call PC and ask them, or the manuf. of the inverter.
    Hope this helps.

    Try a rental

you may want to try renting a generator from a home improvement place. I know that inverters are pains in the butt and they are right your battery will go down quick!

If all else fails try a long extension cord if it is alright with your client to run it out of his apartment. I have had to do this before and even though my client had no objections what so ever I gave him a small discount for his inconvenience.

Squirrel, yeah I think that is the best thing, probably pick up a 100 footer for these occasions.
