    Swirlies--Have fun!

This is the hood of an 02 Accord, black of course. Saw this at one of my new dealer accounts where I do headlight restoration, cig burns, dye, etc...

The ENTIRE car looks like this. I figured maybe it was traded in that way and their detail shop didn`t have the skills to correct this, so I approached the sales mgr. about it.

"Nope", he says. "The car was detailed here, as are all the vehicles." He asked me how much to correct this and when I gave him the quote he freaked out. "That`s four times what I paid to have it done to begin with! No way!"

Now he wants to know why his "awesome" detail guy did this, so we stroll around the back to the bay. Detailer says, "I always buff dark cars, we want `em to really shine." Hmmm.

Needless to say, the stealership still has this vehicle on the lot, 9 weeks later. The mgr. called and asked me if I was still interested in correcting the car. Well, of course I am. He then says he`ll even pay me 10% over what his guy gets, and I don`t even have to do the inside. What`s his "guy" get? $65.00 per car, full detail.

I tried to explain to him very politely that for that price, it`s no wonder it`s full of swirls. Then I politely declined the job.

NOTE: This post is not intended to bash hackers or dealers, but to show the how extreme these are. After all, how much paintcorrection does a 2-year old, 16,000 mile Honda need?

    Enjoy the pics.

PS- I almost wanted to do the darned thing, just to have some great before/after pics for y`all, seeing as how these are probably the worst I`ve seen in years.

    Enjoy the pics.

    Regards,

    Mike R.

This is true, but getting the dealers to reverse their mindset is next to impossible.

They way they look at it is:

"I paid the guy $65.00 to detail the car, why should I pay you 3-4 times that much to do it again?"

Well, we all know the answer to that: SO IT WILL LOOK RIGHT!

What`s amazing is that neither the sales manager nor the detailer has any idea of what they are doing. "Buff dark cars so they shine?" God, they must have hired this guy from under a rock. I agree with you....how much paint correction does a 2-year old, 16k mile car really need?

1st give that detailer the web site
    2nd revoke his buffer
3rd that guy should let you do the job for five times the price he pays his detailer

P.S. you really shouldnt take pictures of cars while they are still moving lol
My biggest challenge is trying not to wash my car. Is that a problem.

Wow...And people think that looks good? Hacks are tough. They either generate more business for real detailers, but they also give the detailing industry a bad name.

But the question that keeps demanding an answer is how this guy with the rotary and brillo pad thinks he did a good job? Is that detailing by sound as opposed to sight?
