Default reflections protection gone in 2 weeks?

two weeks ago i washed, clayed, pp'd, and reflections x2. today i washed and tested for protection by rubbing my hand over surface listening for a sqeaking sound that would indicate a lack of protection. on every body panel i would hear the squeak. i then followed up with a layer of fx spray wax. no sqeaking sound now.

so, my first question is did i use the proper test to indicate a lack of protection?

i expected much longer protection using the synthetic wax. i get substantially longer protection using the uws. the ride stays outside as did the uws vehicle.

any ideas on why i got such a short window of protection?

Was the surface bone dry .Maybe there was some residue left behind by the car shampoo?.

weather shouldn't be a factor, its been cool with lots of clouds these past couple of weeks.

i wouldn't think bonding would be a problem either since it was prepped with powerpolish.

i used the wax within a week after purchase. that shouldn't be a problem either. this is the new "reflections" advanced car wax; not the older reflections.

What was the weather like during the 2 week period? Rain, hot, cold?

Was the vehicle washed during the 2 weeks? And if so, with what?

the weather those two weeks were mainly 50's and cloudy with a few days of rain.

the car was washed twice in those two weeks. the first time with cg car wash. the second time with eo wet car wash.

jbar,

Since April 15, you've had 2.64" of rain.

On what day did you wax?

The reason I asked about the rain was due to airborne contaminants. Some cities have nasty manufacturing that puts particulates up in the air. If it hasnt rained for a while, this stuff sits in the atmosphere and comes falling down when it rains.

If it hadn't rained for a while, and then did, all this crud could have fallen down on the paint. If this was the day you waxed, or the day after, the product might not have had a chance to cure properly, and could have been removed.

jim, not sure exactly which day. id guess a day or two before or after the 15th. not very clear, i know, but it was around that weekend. either way i expected far longer protection than 2 weeks, or even 5 weeks for that matter.

forrest, i suppose that may be the case, but would be a first for me. so whatdoyou think. try another application and see how that goes?

I'm learning synthetics act differently than carnaubas. I had a similar occurance when I waxed then washed right away.

The ad showed up at my house today, too. $5 is a great price, and you get the free car. There are 4 different cars in the package.

The product is a carnauba/synthetic hybrid. It's good stuff for $5 - well worth the money.
