    Fastest production cars

Do you think you know which cars are the very fastest right out of the box? I did too. Then I saw this list and my perspective changed a whole lot. It just goes to show that I am not a fool when I say "Give me the last three years of the 60s and I`ll take one of each car made." They did it right back then and they did it right here in the good ole USA.

Just my opinion, but the 60`s and early 70`s American muscle cars were and always will be the very best - whether they are the fastest or not. They are just in a league all their own!!

That`s just a 1/4 mile drag time, there`s some other numbers that are interesting if you can find them: 0-100-0 time, top speed, slalom speed, road course speed, skidpad G`s...

Those are the things that get me going...

I think the new Saleen (Bruce Almighty fame) is the fastest production car. One of the major car rags has this test in a current issue. I think the number two car was the Ford GT.

That Saleen is the S7 and it is on the list. The Ford GT is on there too.

Dam, my Murano didn`t make the list.

Here is a classic ride that I cleaned, not super fast but man it sounded like it

    I also did a 99 stang, with a 351 that was a rocket

Technology has brought cars a long way from the 60`s but I still wish I owned my 69 Mustang, 351ci, 4 speed. A totally different feel from the 95 Trans-Am I have now.

Love the cars from the 60`s. Back then, it was all about the motor.

yeah ben and the motor, the back yard mechanic could work on them try working on one now without a scanner.I had a 72 pontiac lemans it was my dads he gave it to me for my birthday.Well long story short i hopped it up and not even 2 weeks after spending all the money i had, i crashed racing a friend what a bummer if i only knew then what i know now. the car was cherry and it was wrecked in about 2 minutes rolled over 3 times.I still cry at night thinking about it when nobody is looking.

haha, Just saw the list was just North American cars. TVR`s are my all time fav, they make me want to live in Europe. I`m suprised why not more people drive them. Granted its not the same "muscle" you guys like. I guess I`m just too young for the 60`s cars.

What`s great is that most of the cars on the list do their thing without the help of boost. It`s all about the cubes.

kennethknk, I feel for you. Still looking for a 66 Chevelle. It would have been my inheritance if my mother didn`t force my father to sell it. 396 ci, tunnel ram intake, side exhausts, and a 4 speed. Oh what could have been. On top of that, it was bright red.

I love that the Dodge Neon SRT-4 is just as fast as the 350z!

This makes me want to get my El Camino finished. 454 bored 100 over to 496..or so. Dart heads, Barry Grant carb, hydrolic roller cam, MSD, etc, etc. About $3k, in chrome on the engine w/all new Street & Performance serpentine belt system and brackets. Probably about 550 hp. Reworked 400 trans w/reverse pattern and manual shift, pro street rear end with the huge Mickey`s. Should be in the 11`s. Built for show/go/Sat night cruiser.

Body off, frame holes filled and tons of paint on the frame. Everything new and/or refinished. New plumbing everywhere...partly done. New wiring to come. Significant custom body changes. Glass tilt front-end...partly done. Custom Corvette-like dash and console...partly done. Custom tonneau partly done.

Most of the hard work is done but $$$$ ran out. Had a very knowledgeable and skilled friend who was helping me do the project as I don`t know much and am not skilled. He`d tell me what to do next, show me how to do it and I`d struggle but get it done. The clumsy sob got himself killed at the drag strip and the project died with him. But...resurrection will come It`ll be a while but the dream stays alive.
