    A 22` Sylvan

I know this is an AUTO detailing forum, and I hope no one gets upset if I show off a boat that I detailed Monday.

I haven`t done too many boats, and the ones that I have cleaned up were rather clean to begin with. This Sylvan hadn`t been cleaned in about three years. Every year the owners took it out of the water and stored it dirty... The following season they`d put it back in the water - without so much as washing it...

Here`s one of the before pictures...

    And here`s an "after" picture...

(Can someone advise me how to keep from making the pictures so big?)

Thanks Boss... I cleaned the vinyl with a product called "Super Green" (like Simple Green, only made by a local chemical distributor and bought in bulk 5 gallon containers). Anyhow Diluted SG with water, sprayed it on, and attacked it with a scrub brush. Then used a bucket of water and rag to rinse it off. Dressed with Pro-Time Vinyl Protector High Gloss (from National Detail Systems)...

By the way, the steps I took on the exterior were the following:
    1. washed with Dawn.
    2. cleaned with Duragloss 541 Marine & RV cleaner with midew buster (basically a sodium hydrchlorite cleaner)
    3. gem orbital polished stained area with (ready for this "No. 7 White Polishing Compound". Remember this stuff? Definitly not for use on clearcoats/gelcoats.
    4. gem orbital polished entire exterior fiberglass with Duragloss 501 Marine & RV polish.
    5. Hand applied Collinite 845 Liquid Insulator Wax

More pics of before and after, and the finished project can be seen here: http://onthespotnc.tripod.com/onthes...ling/id13.html

What kind of pad did you use to buff the gelcoat?

Didn`t use a buffer. Used my Gem Orbital Polisher with a terry-cloth bonnet. This, in combination with that "no.7 white polishing compound", created just enough abrasion to cut through the stains without scratching the gelcoat.

    Onthespot
