Just ordered rotary...what size pads are best?

Well after much contemplation, I finally ordered a Makita rotary. Scottabir is going to show me how to run it next weekend.:band

I detailed a 93 RX7 last week with DACPx2 (where`s my SSR2.5 Eric???) and my PC and sweat my arse off for hours only to get 70% of the swirls gone. The swirls were not even THAT bad.

Anyway, I`d like to use Edge 2000 pads. They sell 6" pads (I have a couple already) and they have 8" pads (sold for use with a rotary)
I was wondering what size most people use? 8" seems really big and hard to get into small spots but 6" might be too small for hoods/trunks, etc?
Or is the answer the ever popular "have both pad sizes on hand!"

Since you are new to the rotary, I suggest using the 6" pads till you get the feel for it.
They will be easier to control and will not generate as much heat as the 8" pads.
I seem to use the smaller pads more and more because I can take it off of my PC and place it on the rotary if I need more aggressiveness.
With that said, I feel that I can achieve a better shine with less work using the 8" pad.
Good luck ... after you use it a few times you will wonder how you got along without it.

I totally agree with Kimwallace. While the 8 inch are the most popular for the rotary the 6 inch may be easier to learn with and safer too. That being said you will be faster and more efficient with the 8 inch once you get the hang of the rotary. Either way I know you will love the ease of being able to snap on either a 6inch or 8 inch pad without ever changing the backing plate. Its one of the great features of The Edge2000 system.

Cool I may try the 6" pads I have already first to see how they work. I`ll use my hood as a test panel since it`s not in great shape...
