Question Polishing clear-coated aluminum wheels

On Mothers Detail Guide, wheel care page, it mentions a product called: Clear-Coat Wheel Polish. Under the part called Painted, Anodized & Clear-Coated Aluminum the following statement is made: "Frequent application of Clear-Coat Wheel Polish not only removes embedded brake dust but also helps to prevent the buildup of it between cleanings." However, I cannot seem to locate this product at any retailer, or for sale on the web.

I am wondering why Mothers would recommend this product when it is so hard to find. Has it possibly been discontinued? If so, what are people with 'polished aluminum wheels' using? It seems virtually all OEM 'polished aluminum wheels' are clear-coated, or similarly protected. Thus, the billet polish, or the 'Mag & Aluminum Polish' should not be used.

In some other threads, a Mothers admin recommends "a plastic polish" but doesn't state which. Another admin says "FX Spray Wax works real well to add protection to coated wheels." But what if you want to polish the clear-coated wheels prior to protecting with wax?

Mothers makes a plastic polish called Plastic Polish. It is a simple name..compared to the often marketing names created by the competition.

You should do two steps: clean with Plastic Polish and follow up with a wax to help make cleaning easier. If you do not have a plastic polish, you can try a cleaner wax if you have some from the Clay Kit.

You can use any kind of wax (spray or liquid). Mothers usually recommends something that is more likely to be found at a local parts place.

For wheels, either PowerPlastic or our Plastic Polish work pretty equally for polishing and protecting -- either is available pretty widely. Sometimes you need a product like our Scratch Remover for stubborn scratches or marring.

FX Spray Wax is great for regular maintenance and dust protection.

And we do apologize that the "new" Detail Guide is still not ready yet -- so there are a few references to products that have been phase-out.

A quick look on our Retailers page will help direct you to many stores and list what they stock -- or ask us and we're always glad to assist.
