    Pinstriping application

    Hey all,

Have a customer with a black Camaro that was recently repainted (to an excellent standard, IMO). He wants me to add pinstriping (tape). Probably silver. Have removed bunches of striping, but have never applied any.

I have access to 3M tapes and have all other supplies I need (I think) like prep materials, razor blades, etc...

This will be a simple front to rear stripe along the side just about where the beltline is.

Anyone do this often? Any tips or hints are greatly appreciated. TIA.

    Regards,
    Mike

I used to stripe all the time when I built custom boat trailers. It`s really easy. I always did it free hand, unless it was a trailer for a celeb or something and the bosses would stand and make sure it was perfect. Then I just used some painters tape to make sure it was straight and used that as a guide. I liked the free hand method better. Just attatch one end and pull the stripe back and look down the body lines. DO NOT push the stripe down until you are sur it is straight then go back over it with your finger to asure it sticks good. This probably made no sense cause I am not good and telling but better at showing.

    hi civicex,

thanks for the quick reply. I`m wondering... if after lining up the stripe from front to back, but before peeling off the adhesive backing, should I pull just a little bit on each end to stick it to the body, THEN carefully peel the backing while smoothing stripe out?

Hmm, I`m not so good with creating verbal pictures myself.

    TIA!

Yeah, peel the backing off and press it down as one step. That is what I always did. And You are goign to want to pull it tight, not so tight as to pull of the stripe, and adhere the end of it before peeling and pressing.
