Polishing and waxing a vehicle with XPel on the hood?

I`ve just purchased a new vehicle and had the front of the hood and mirrors covered with the XPel product to protect against rock chips. How should I treat these areas when I polish, seal and wax the paint? Should I avoid them or should I go ahead and apply these products to the protected areas?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

No, it`s that 8 mil stuff that is kind of like a big decal. It is clear, though.

    Hard to tell...

I would just use a fine "final" polish to keep it in tip-top shape, as they can stain. Make sure it is protected regularly. Here is a 2003 White BMW that has it on the front of the hood and side mirrors.

    Hey ew,

I have worked with Xpel for years now and did a few of the first cars covered with the stuff here in Texas. The stuff is great, lasts forever and is just about bullet proof!

It has a clear coat covering it and it can be polished and waxed as your regular paint but I would stay away from anything overly abrasive. I also highly recommend taping off the edges as you polish and wax as wax build up along the edges can be a real eye sore.

So when you polish and wax the paint portion tape over the Xpel and a thin line of tape covering the edge of the Xpel and onto the paint. This way any build up will build itself along the edge of the tape and can be easily removed just before your final wax. Then when you polish the Xpel do the opposite. Lay the majority of the tape on the paint and then a slight line on top of the Xpel.

Use painters tape for the masking and also try to always wash, dry, polish and wax in one linear direction on the Xpel and the Xpel mars easily.

    Hope this helps,
    Anthony
