    Final Inspection or Quick Detailer

I am considering purchasing a gallon of one of these two and I was wondering which one is more versatile. They will primarily be used for priming pads, claying, and maintaining vehicles after the weekly wash between wax applications. I was leaning towards QD for this purpose, however I noticed that there is some "bite" that will probably eat right through my carnauba topper wax, defeating the purpose. So then I leaned towards Final Inspection, but I need to know if that will work well with clay since it is so early in the process? The question is, I guess, does FI have good lubrication so the clay isn`t dragging on the surface too much? Which product do you guys find more versatile?

To be honest, I think Mother`s Showtime is better suited to the type of QD you are looking for. However, the FI is fairly slippery, and might work.

They are two entirely different products.
    Meguiar`s #66 Quick Detailer is a fairly aggressive cleaner/wax.
It doesn`t seem to be a product for "maintaining" a finish.

#34 Final Inspection is a QD product that is intended for that purpose.

With Meguiar`s products, it is important to read what the product does, not rely on what it is called.

I use FI for claying and it works great. It wipes off completely leaving a ready to polish finish. I do not wash after claying. FI seems to have some limited cleaning ability. It does not contain silicone so it will not interfere with products used later in your process.
For a QD spray only for after washes etc. I use Meguiars Final Detail. It does contain silicone and as long as there is wax or sealant on the car, it wipes off without streaking and leaves a shiney slick surface.

    Question

what would happen if I use say Zaino Z6(with polymer I think) on S100 or Poorboy QD+ on say Wolfgang?

I did that this morning after S&W - It was like applying a spray wax. Sprayed it. Worked to a haze then wiped off. I hope it didn`t remove my Wolfgang sealant ... So far I`m not much of a QD+ fan. Maybe I`m not getting it or something ...

hmm wonder if you can still apply wolfgang on your car since you have some carnauba on it or you have to strip it and do all over again, anyone?

Well I only did half the car - the other half I used Wolfgangs detail spritiz. So I should be able to tell after a couple of days or perhaps a week if it stripped the Wolfgang off by the feel of - Wolfgang DGS is pretty slick stuff. I just re-read the QD+ description on Poorboys web site and it seems to be more of a cleaner wax than what I expected when I used it this morning ... Hmm maybe I goofed up in picking that product for the other half of the car. I think I`ll PM Steve and ask him to pipe in on this thread. :dunno

Megs FI in before and in between polishing steps and to spray pads, FD to QD with extra gloss. Both availible in gallons.

I found that Auto Magic`s Body Shine #49 seems to work just as fine,, if not better than FI -- at a lower cost. I also found that for claying, I prefer to use window cleaner as my lubricant, for it helps in removing any existing wax. Of course there is a drawback, the clay doesn`t last as long, so I break off a silver dollar size chunk, instead of using the whole bar, and get 2-3 cars from each piece.

I agree with Bill D. For use between coats, use Final Inspection. For gloss enhancement, use Final Detail or Quik Detailer (in the maroon bottle).

CharlesW is also correct. Be very careful with the spelling of Quick versus Quik Detailer. Meguiar`s has two very different products with similar names. #66 in the Mirror Glaze line is NOT a QD spray.

For a clay lubricant, I`ll either use the manufacturer`s included lube (if it comes in a kit) or just a fresh bucket of car wash soap. I`m one of those people who prefers to wash, clay, and then re-wash.

Spray and Wipe is the answer as JimS said....

adding silicone or wax to what you want to do will inhibit the priming, the claying from the purpose you want..
.....and if you are putting more coats on of a sealant you do not want to use silicone or wax QD`s

if the Qd is the last product going to be used before another detail, then it doesn`t matter
life is short ..do it while you can
