    Question Steel wheel painting

Need advice on paiinting steel wheels.

Only a couple of spots on each wheel needs to repainted. Do I paint the whole wheel for color match reasons or just the spots which need painting? Or should I just polish the rest of the wheel with DACP or equivlent?

    Here is my plan:
    1. Remove wheels
    2. Mask tires
    3. Scuff wheels with 600 grit
    4. Wipe with tack cloth and prep solvent
    5. Spray wheels with hi-temp black paint
    6. Wait 20 minutes
    7. Remount wheels

sounds like you have a good idea of the work needed. I personaly always paint the whole thing but no it`s not always nessicary. You can do it on an as needed basis. For scraching though 600 is a little fine. Shouldn`t be a problem but usualy i`d use 320. You also may wan`t to wait more than 20 min.

    Koop,
How long should I wait until remounting wheeels?
Also, do I need to use a primer on the bare spots?

I was told to ALWAYS use primer on bare metal.
Dream big and be willing to do the work to get there.

bahhh. Use some decent paint make sure it`s clean and you get good coverage and you won`t get rust for a couple years! It`s never a bad idea though. As far as how long to wait it all depends on the paint. It should say recomended drying time on the paint your using. Most paints you should be good in 2 hours or a little less. (your chance though please don`t yell at me if it was still wet.)
