Default VLR for Vinyl-Leather-Rubber Interior Care

I detailed the interior of my truck today and given how much time this takes, VLR helped speed things up a bit by allowing me to use a single step product on multiple kinds of surfaces. The only other product I used was Protectant, on the rest of the surfaces I didn't use VLR on (namely, the plastics). Oh wait, I forgot glass cleaner for the windows. Okay, three products.

Mothers VLR is a very nice product. It leaves a very nice light leather scent.

What did you use Mothers Protectant on that you did not use VLR.

Geez, I put this thread in the wrong forum too. Please feel free to move, mods.

Abnot, I didn't use VLR on the door panels and center console which are largely plastic.

VLR is perfect for plastic panels.

Hmm. Wish I'd known that. I don't recall the possibility mentioned on the label.

It's not mentioned on the label.

The one thing to remember with any cleaner/conditioner such as VLR and others, you want to spray enough on the towel to clean the surface, but immediately use a second soft dry towel to buff it off to a natural luster. You don't want excess shine in the interior as it reflects in the sun, and you don't want remaining product to be left behind to dry on its own as it should be wiped dry to work properly.

When most people use products like our Protectant, the tendency is to leave the surface appearing wet because it gives the appearance you did something good -- and for a product like that, it's usually okay, but it leaves the surface shiny and reflective. A simple way to fix that shine is to buff with a dry towel.

What product you use for a given task is sometimes personal preference depending on how the surface reacts to a given product and it varies from vehicle to vehicle.

I prefer the OEM/factory look myself, not a wet, slick finish. I don't like a greasy after-smell either. Protectant left none of these negative qualities.

There two basic ways to apply a dressing:

1. spray on applicator and apply
2. spray on the surface then spread/remove

The advantage of the spray on applicator method is that it controls where it goes (like not on glass), may often not need to be buffed to knock down the sheen if you like it more matte, and probably use less product.
